My Preparation Before Monsoon Arrival for My Kiddos.

After being a mom of my kiddo, there was drastic change in me and more or less, I entered in to the skin of my parents, ready with reprimands, yeh mat karo, wo mat karo…I feel we draw in these features being overprotective and overcaring.

In the home where there are kids, one has to be extra careful in monsoon and take enough care of the small ones. They are more prone to infections, pesky bites of insects and mosquitoes, flu, cold, cholera, etc.

After being a Mom, I started preparation for the coming monsoons and was over alert so that we don’t have to run to doctors on some pretext or the other.

Monsoon Tips

I check for cracks and crevices in the rooms and furniture around. All the cracks are sealed by the service people if it needs professional care, else I close them with the adhesives available in the market for wood and cement. These cracks and crevices can be a breeding and hiding places for the insects and mosquitoes. In deep crevices, there is danger of snakes recoiling in them.

I get electrical outlets and switches checked. In monsoon, there are chances of electric shock if water leaks into the outlets or it requires replacement.

I disperse baking powder and bleaching powder in all drain pipe of our home. I do it regularly in the kitchen and bathroom but before the advent of monsoon, I don’t leave a corner. The balcony garden space is also treated by baking soda and bleaching powder. We live in an apartment society and we all members take care to get the open areas disinfected by lime and bleaching powder because they ward off insects and mosquitoes and kill the present ones.

Remove all the clutter from the house that remains unused for long, either I give away to needy and poor else dump in the garbage.

We take extra care to keep the bathroom squeaky clean and dry so that no mold, the fungus develops inviting diseases.

The apartment outskirts, basement area, terrace are all checked for leakage and accordingly treated so that there are no chances of water stagnation nearby. All the potholes are repaired and drainage holes are covered with proper covers. Water stagnation is the best place for breeding of the insects and the mosquitoes, so to be safe side, we work towards it.

I buy and store all the required medicines of my kiddo, antiseptics, insect bites spray and patches so that it can be administered as per the requirement.

I buy comfortable cotton clothes of full length to cover my baby and saving from getting pinched by insects. In monsoon, you will discover different types of scary insects. Closed monsoon shoes and slippers for the baby.

Buy a comfortable cotton mosquito net. We religiously use mosquito net in monsoon to prevent from accidental bites of insects, reptiles, and mosquitoes.

Buy colorful raincoat for my babies to save them from the rains.

I follow a few natural things to keep my home safe and my babies safe in the rainy season.

Use Neem boiled water to wipe floors.

Use salt and vinegar to clean kitchen gas stove and platform.

Use Neem water for occasional bathing.

Use warm water for bathing.

Keep the room temperature soothing.

If you follow these tips as I and many others do. I swear you won’t be in trouble in monsoons rather you will enjoy as I do.

I do give my kiddos the freedom to walk and dance in the rain, make paper boats and ply in the tubs and eat homemade delicacies to enjoy monsoons along with needed protection. I relive those moments of my childhood days with my cutie pies.
