I got campus placement in a reputed IT company in Gurgaon. I was raised and educated in South India, so I had a vague idea of North India and Gurgaon. For the first time in my life, I was packing my bags for an unknown region. Gurgaon was prominent in my mind because of the absurd news of the place, and my Mom had a strange fear in her mind.
When she heard about my campus placement, her happiness knew no bounds but knowing about my posting, she had an inkling to get it changed. The first posting of my life that too a campus posting could not be modified we all knew.
At first, she was ready to accompany, but my Dad made her understand that the Gurgaon is not that bad as projected in the news. Everywhere some incidents occur, but some get more attention, and Gurgaon was the victim of getting too much attention.
We did not have any relatives staying in Delhi & NCR. My Dad took leave and accompanied me to Gurgaon. He, too, was bothered about my safety in this new town, and he gave sermons throughout the journey as to how to handle myself in this city, lifestyle quite different from South India.
Our staying arrangement was at OYO Rooms in Delhi. Finally, we reached our destination. As I was getting ready to visit my office for joining, my Dad went to the reception to enquire about PG’s to arrange my accommodation.
The OYO manager insisted for OYO LIFE PG accommodation and briefed him the details. My Dad thought that OYO was promoting their PG accommodation. He retrieved all detailed info about it but was not convinced at first.
After joining, we were introduced to the other fellows participating with us. Four girls were there in our group who was an outsider like me, and they all wished to stay together. It was kind of them that they included me in their list and asked if I was interested.
It was like “doobte ko sahara” because I wished the same though I could not open up. From the same group, one of the girls insisted on OYO LIFE – PG in Gurgaon. She was acquainted with OYO LIFE because her elder sister was staying there. She stated the high opinion of the property and the privileges and to top all, it was a safe haven for girls.

It had ready to move in a single room and shared room accommodation. There was greenery in the open spaces. The rooms were well-lit with proper ventilation. The venue was cozy, and it was only for Girls and Women. The place was connected with metro, and another communication was also available, and it was near to my office. Even the charges were reasonable, minimum rent was Rs. 5,000 for each bed.
I calculated in my mind, the rent was at the throwaway price compared to taking shared flat where we had to buy all the essential things of our need. Here in 5,000, it was complimentary.
After taking feedback from the girls staying there, my Dad and I were relieved of the accommodation issue. We paid the amount, and I took shared accommodation. I had never slept alone in my life, my companion was my younger sister, so there was no question of taking single accommodation.
I shifted my belongings to my allotted space in OYO LIFE and was amazed to find a Bangalorean girl, my room partner. A girl from South India got another South Indian companion, and till date, we share a great bonding just like own sisters.
OYO Rooms extension OYO LIFE is grand, and since my posting, I am staying here, and I don’t have any plans to move till I am posted at Gurgaon office.
Off and on, I visit Bangalore on official deputation and there, I stay at OYO LIFE PG in Bangalore, a grand place to live in.
