Is Online Really The Future Of Dating

In the last ten years, practically every aspect of our lives has been digitized in some way or another. Bank branches have closed in favor of online banking solutions, you can now order virtually anything from the internet and have it delivered to your door in 24 hours, and our love lives haven’t escaped the transformation either.

Whether you like it or not dating apps and dating sites are now the new norms, they’ve lost their stigma as being for the ‘most desperate’ portions of dating society and are now seen as no more out of the ordinary than having Facebook on the home page of your phone and it has been predicted that by 2050 82% of the population will find their partner online.

Why is Online Dating so Popular

Online dating has become so popular for the same core reasons that online shopping is closing down the high street — convenience, separation, and choice.

Convenience
Whereas you could meet 50 people at a speed dating night, you can swipe through 50 profiles in a few minutes using a dating app, and what’s more, you can do it from anywhere at any time and inconspicuously. Convenience is perhaps the single biggest driver for the digitization of many aspects of our lives, and once people get a feel for it, it can be hard to give back.

Separation
Starting to date again can be awkward, but doing it through a digital device allows a degree of separation boosting people’s confidence and enabling them to put themselves out there when they may have been too shy to do so in person.

Choice
Although comparing online dating to online shopping may seem a little bit shallow at the end of the day, physical attraction plays a big part in our choice of a potential partner. Online dating allows interested parties to view thousands of people, both near and far, providing them with more choice and more chance of finding their perfect partner.

Where will people be dating in 2020

The online dating world can easily be broken down into two main areas, both of which will continue to grow in 2020.

  1. Dating websites: Dating websites are seen as the more sophisticated versions of dating apps for people looking for lifelong partners, but they are also a great way to narrow down your search if you know you are looking for something in particular such as Arab dating.

  2. Dating Apps: Dating Apps such as Bumble and Tinder are continuing to prove popular with both the young and older generations. There are now more dating apps on the market than ever before, and the market is expected to continue to grow as App companies try to find the next dating niche.

Could Online Dating be Harmful

As with all areas of the digital world, of course, there are ways in which online dating can be abused. The separation provided by online profiles can enable certain people to act in a way in which they would not act in real life, and of course, there’s no guarantee that the person you are talking to online is going to be the same in person. To stay safe, ensure that you first meet in a public place and allow your friends to know where you are going, take things slowly and get to see the person as you would if you had met in real life.
